Alpacas, Tigers, and Zebras, Oh My!

To sorta-kinda celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary, we went on a zoo tour at Rancho Las Lomas. I had a Groupon that was expiring soon and we knew that it would be something fun to do with Vivian. Rancho Las Lomas is a private estate that typically hosts weddings and receptions. We actually looked into holding our wedding there in 2011, but the high price tag quickly scared us away. Oddly enough, though, the caterer for our wedding, 24 Carrots, is the same caterer used by Rancho Las Lomas.

Back to zoo tour. We got to the see the beautiful estate grounds and pool and the birds and animals on site. Dan had been to Rancho Las Lomas once before – for an interview for a Dateline episode that he was on – but I had never been there. Turns out, this beautiful place is just around the corner from our house!

Seeing the white Bengal tiger was definitely the highlight of the tour. She was so close to us!

Resting After Our Tour

After the tour, we ate lunch and went home, where I spent most of the weekend on the couch and in bed due to a nasty cold (that, sadly, I then gave to Vivian). Certainly, anniversary celebrations have changed a lot over the years. For our first anniversary, we went to Cabo; now, we go to a zoo. Oh well; we’ll further celebrate our anniversary next month when we go to the Oddball Comedy Tour sans Vivian.

Oh, the joy of pre- and post-kid anniversaries. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for us, I was pregnant with Autumn on our first wedding anniversary, and the ONE day I got pregnancy sick was the day we took a trip up to Tulsa, so that helped set the bar low from the get-go. That does look like a neat place. I did love your wedding caterer, and that place looks like a neat place to visit! I love that low-hanging tree.
