Colorado Adventure: Checking Things Off Our List!

We are cranking through our list and last weekend we were able to check two big things off: zip lining and whitewater rafting! I have been zip lining once before (in Costa Rica), but Dan hasn’t. He has been whitewater rafting once before (on the American River in NorCal), but I haven’t. So, we flew to Colorado over Memorial Day weekend, met up with my sister and her boyfriend, Tim, and spent a weekend full of adventure in and around Colorado Springs.

We hiked and drove around Garden of the Gods.

We saw The Hangover Part III (very entertaining!).

We went zip lining with my cousin, Shari, and her husband, Cory, near Canon City.

Then, the highlight of the trip (for me, at least), Anna, Dan, and I went whitewater rafting through the Royal Gorge (amazing!!). We went through class I, II, III, and IV rapids. Not only was it exhilarating, it was absolutely beautiful – we truly had the best view of the Royal Gorge from our raft seats. Dan was in the front of the raft most of the time and Anna and I were in the rear. We got totally soaked, but luckily we didn’t fall out of the raft and the raft didn’t flip upside down at all. I don’t have any pictures from our rafting adventure, though, because I didn’t take my camera with us and we didn’t fork over the $65 they were asking for the professional pictures that they took.

We checked out the Royal Gorge Bridge from afar (earlier in the day, we rafted right underneath it).

We ate dinner on Sunday night at Phantom Ranch Brewing Company in downtown Colorado Springs. We tasted all of their microbrews – yum, yum.

We drove to the top of Pikes Peak.

And, finally, we walked around the famous Broadmoor hotel.

We had a jam-packed, adventure-filled weekend – something we probably won’t be able to do quite so easily if/when we have kids. We love traveling together and it was great to be able to also spend the weekend experiencing new things with my family. So, another check off our list…and on to the next big adventure – hiking Mt. Whitney in two weeks!
