Hair Be Gone

This will most likely be filed under TMI, but if I’m going to keep an honest account of the things we’re doing/want to do before having children, then I have to write about this next item: Getting rid of unwanted hair – forever! It’s hard enough keeping up with shaving and waxing when I don’t have kids. I’m worried that I’m going to turn into a hairy monster when I do have kids because I’ll obviously have even less time for personal grooming. So, thanks to a great recommendation from a friend, I took the plunge, forked over the money, and signed up for laser hair removal. The whole process will take about 8 months, but that means that by next summer – and well before there is a baby on the way – I’ll be hairless in selected areas.

I’ve only had one treatment so far, but I’m already seeing results. I was very surprised how fast, and really, pain-free the treatment was. I feel comfortable knowing that an RN is performing the procedure, and it’s much faster and less invasive than waxing.

Cost was the main reason that I never invested in laser hair removal before, but I calculated the ROI (since I no longer have to go to monthly waxings) and I’ll begin saving money in only a year. Woo-hoo!

Now, when the time comes, I won’t need to have the worry that many of my other friends with children have had: How do you remove all that hair before childbirth when you can’t see anything and you’re super sensitive, yet you don’t want to look like a hippie from 1968 while your legs are wide open for the world to peer into in the delivery room.

And yes, I did just write and share all of that. And no, I will not be adding any pictures to this post.

  1. OH Carrie, I love you! 🙂 I share TMI all the time – so I appreciate when others feel they are doing the same! I also love that you actually calculated the ROI … classic! Thanks for the smiles today!

  2. LOL well I don’t know anyone who looked like some hippie when giving birth…when the nurse whipped out the razor to shave me for the c-section she was like “whoa…wow…you got all that taken care of”…even in labor a girl is gonna make sure she’s hair-free!

Ha ha! Well, I’m not getting laser hair removal JUST so that I don’t have to worry about hair down there during labor. It will be nice never to have to worry about it again! Not having to worry about it when I’m pregnant, in labor, and as a new mom is a major added bonus though.

  3. Nice! I tried to get this done before the wedding, but just couldn’t find the time to make more than 2 appointments. That said, I am really impressed at how much it has reduced things, and it was way less painful than waxing. You’ve inspired me to look into it again!

Edited to add: I finally finished my last laser hair removal treatment! Just in time for summer:-)
